Coastal Hiking Trail Map
COUNTRY: Canada   PROVINCE: Ontario   (Printer Version)
REGION: Pukaskwa National Park   TITLE: Coastal Hiking Trail
NOTES: On the north shore of Lake Superior southeast of Marathon, the 37 mile Coastal Hiking Trail runs through boreal forest and crosses numerous rivers. The Coastal Hiking Trail winds from Hattie Cove, south through the boreal forest and over the hummocky rock of the shield to the North Swallow River (60 km). It is a tough hike and requires proper planning, equipment and fitness. The route is well-marked, and campsites are located near beaches and bays. All backcountry hikers must register-in and register-out with park staff. The park limits the number of parties permitted in the backcountry. If you are planning a trip into the backcountry call the park well in advance to book your trip. Groups are limited to eight people. Keep a sharp eye out for the scarce woodland caribou!

Pukaskwa is located near the town of Marathon, in northern Ontario, Canada. The only road access to Pukaskwa is at the north end, near Hattie Cove. To reach the park, follow Highway 17 (Trans Canada Highway) to the Highway 627 turnoff (10 km east of Marathon). Follow Highway 627 for about 15 km, until you reach Pukaskwa National Park.

Backcountry trail guides can be purchased from the park by phoning 807-229-0801 ext. 242
