REGION: Grand Mesa National Forest   TITLE: Grand Mesa Snowmobiling
NOTES: East of Grand Junction and Mesa, the Grand Mesa area has 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails at elevations ranging from 8,200 to 11,200 feet.

The Grand Mesa Snowmobile Trail Sytem covers over 350,000 acres of riding available in the Grand Mesa and White River National Forests located in Western Colorado. The snowmobile trails can be accessed from the Towns of Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, Delta, Carbondale and Paonia. There are two distinct riding areas; the Powderhorn Area and the Sunlight Area.

The Powderhorn Area covers the western area of the Grand Mesa and includes trailheads located near the Towns of Grand Junction, Delta and Collbran. It includes the riding areas of Mesa Lakes, Grand Mesa Lodge, Alexander Lakes, Stevens Gulch and East over to Electric Mountain Lodge.

The Sunlight Area covers the eastern area of the Grand Mesa and includes trailheads located near the Towns of Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and Paonia. It covers the riding areas North of Electric Mountain Lodge including Buzzard Creek, Haystack Mountain and Haystack Gate.

All snowmobiles operating on federal lands within Colorado are required to be registered with Colorado State Parks. This registration permit is available at most National Forest ranger offices and at some chamber of commerce offices. It is highly recommended to purchase the $3 annual Colorado Search And Rescue Card (CORSAR) prior to snowmobiling to help reimburse local search teams should they be needed.
