Morro Bay State Park Hiking Map
COUNTRY: US   STATE: California - Southern   (Printer Version)
REGION: San Luis Obispo   TITLE: Morro Bay State Park Hiking
NOTES: West of San Luis Obispo, the Morro Bay State Park has a wide range of easy hiking trails to explore. The three more popular hikes within the park are the Quarry Trail, the Park Ridge Trail and the Live Oak Trail.

If you are looking for some challenge, try the rocky scramble up the faint trail to the Cabrillo Peak (911 feet). Cabrillo Peak is one of nine morros surrounding Morro Bay. A morro is a mini volcanic peak that started under the sea and has been eroded over time. There are exceptional views from atop Cabrillo Peak.

Another popular exploration is the easy three mile trek around Black Hill, a 640 foot morro.

To reach the trailhead for Cabrillo Peak from San Luis Obispo, head north on US101 to the US 1 exit. Continue another 12 miles north on US 1. Take the exit signed for Morro Bay State Park. Follow South Bay Boulevard and veer left on South Bay Boulevard for another 0.5 miles to the dirt parking for Cabrillo Peak.
