Myakka River State Park Mountain Biking Map
COUNTRY: US   STATE: Florida   (Printer Version)   (Download Waypoints - GPX Format) ?
REGION: Myakka River State Park   TITLE: Myakka River State Park Mountain Biking
NOTES: Situated 20 miles east of Sarasota, the 29,000 acre Myakka River State Park has miles of dirt roads open to biking. These closed doubletracks, such as the Poweline Road or the Old Railroad Grade, pass through dry grass/palmetto praires, palm islands and shaddy Oak hammocks. The park has a varied habitat of small wetlands, pine & live oak flatwoods, and dry praire provides home to 17,000 gators, thousands of ferral pigs, deer and bobcat. The Myakka Island Trail combines paved and dirt roads to route bikers from the park to the Sarasota County Carlton Reserve. It is a 22 mile route.

Three Primitive Camping areas are accessible by bike; Mossy Hammock, Bee Island and Oak Grove. Registration at the ranger station is required for overnight camping. Bikers must walk their bikes on the hiking trails.

To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Sarasota, follow US41 south. Head east on Stickney Point Road which turns into Clark Road (aka SR72). After passing US75, continue east on SR72 for 8 miles to the park entrance. The best place to park is at the Myakka trailhead just past the Upper Lake.
