Since 1997, TRAILSOURCE.COM™ has been your guide to epic trails worldwide. TRAILSOURCE.COM™ is an online adventure guide to trail information including descriptions, driving directions, printable maps, camping and lodging recommendations, photos and videos. This information has been compiled and edited from a variety of sources including on-site visits, local land managers, tourism offices, local shops and clubs. Many of the trails have been edited and modified numerous times over the years.
While today, TRAILSOURE.COM™ is a database-driven website, it didn’t start that way. Initiated in 1993 as a manila folder of clippings, copies and notes, the vision was to provide a single-source for travel and exploration of wild areas around the planet by foot, bike, cross country skis or snowboard. To organize the trail descriptions and travel related information, a database was created in 1994 and the accumulation of trail information became a labor of love for many involved. The trail information is an edited compilation from sources such as personal exploration, government publications, maps, regional trail guidebooks, local bike shops and regional websites.
Due to the volume of requests for hardcopy listings, the TRAILSOURCE™ database was first printed in the Summer of 1997. Then, in November 1997, the first version of this website was created to sell the printed version online. While the printed copy sold rapidly, it was quickly realized that the Internet was the better medium for disseminating the trail information. The TRAILSOURCE.COM™ website was relaunched in the Summer of 1998 with all the trail information online.
Since 1998, the TRAILSOURCE.COM™ website has been continually updated and expanded. Over the years, the trail sports covered has grown to also include horseback riding, ATV riding, dirt biking, OHV/Jeep driving and snowmobiling.
Presently, the trail descriptions and maps are still regularly updated. Each month, the editors at TRAILSOURCE™ are busy revising trail content, adding new trails, cropping new photos and producing new video content. It is still truly a labor of love for all involved.
