In Washburn County, a 40 mile stretch of the Wild Rivers State Trail runs from Minong south to Sarona. The route traverses through majestic pines, scenic vistas and flowing streams and rivers. The main trailhead is located in Spooner.

The Wild Rivers State Trail is a 96 mile multi-use route along the abandoned Soo Line railroad grade. The trail meanders through Barron, Douglas and Washburn Counties. It passes through numerous charming and unique northland communities. The route is shared in the summer by hikers, mountain bikers, horseback and ATV riders, and in the winter by cross country skiers and snowmobilers.

Overall, Washburn County Forest is the 31st most popular ATV riding trail of all 48 ATV trails in Wisconsin. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Washburn County Forest including Minong ATV Trail and Spider Lake ATV Trail.
