Mescalero Sands North Dunes OHV Area For ATV Riding
The 5th most popular all terrain vehicle trail in New Mexico.

East of Roswell, the Mescalero Sands North Dunes OHV Area has 610 acres open to ATV riding. The Bowl Parking Area provides access to the northern portion of the dunes which includes a region known as The Bowl. The Bowl is a large depression surrounded by dunes. The Cottonwoods Parking Area provides access to the southern portion of the dunes.
To reach the Bowl Parking Area ATV riding trailhead from Roswell, head east on US380 for 45 miles. Turn south at the trailhead sign near milepost 192. Note, there is no water at the Mescalero Sands North Dunes Area.
While ATV riding the Mescalero Sands North Dunes Area, each all-terrain-vehicle is required to display a State Of New Mexico registration permit sticker. This includes both residents and non-residents. Residents can obtain a registration permit sticker from any Motor Vehicle Division Field Office. Non-residents can obtain a New Mexico ATV registration permit sticker online or by calling the Departement of Game and Fish at (505) 476-8000. Make sure to have a sticker displayed before ATV riding the Mescalero Sands North Dunes Area.
