Northeast of Roswell, the 1,920 acre Haystack Mountain OHV Recreation Area is perched on the rugged breaks overlooking the Pecos River in southeastern New Mexico. The ATV riding trails at Haystack Mountain OHV Recreation Area are designed for novices to experts. Keep in mind that the trails are limited to ATVs up to 50 inches wide.
To reach the ATV riding trailhead at Haystack Mountain OHV Recreation Area from Roswell, head east on US70 for 23 miles. The entrance to this ATV riding area is well marked.
While ATV riding the Haystack Mountain Recreation Area, each all-terrain-vehicle is required to display a State Of New Mexico registration permit sticker. This includes both residents and non-residents. Residents can obtain a registration permit sticker from any Motor Vehicle Division Field Office. Non-residents can obtain a New Mexico ATV registration permit sticker online or by calling the Departement of Game and Fish at (505) 476-8000. Make sure to have a sticker displayed before ATV riding the Haystack Mountain Recreation Area.
