Southeast of Salmon and northeast of Leadore in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, there is a nice 10 mile section of the Nez Perce National Historic Trail (#6244) from Bannock Pass to the mouth of Canyon Creek Canyon parallel to SR29.
Note: As of September 2007, ATV riding is permitted only on designated dirt Forest Service roads. A map with designated roads can be obtained from the Forest Service HQ at (208) 756-5100. In addition, the ATV must pass a strict list of regulations.
Overall, Nez Perce National Historic Trail is the 13th most popular ATV riding trail of all 55 ATV trails in Idaho. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Nez Perce National Historic Trail including Bear Valley Lakes Trail, Hayden Creek Trail, East Fork Hayden Creek Trail and Big Eightmile Trail.
