Old Carter Trail For ATV Riding
The 21st most popular all terrain vehicle trail in Utah.

Near Vernal, the Old Carter Trail (#16) is a 7 mile ATV riding trail.
To reach the northern trailhead from Vernal, head north on Hwy 191/UT44. At the junction for the Flaming Gorge Dam, go left and continue on UT 44 to FR 218 (aprox 15 mi) and take a left. Take another left onto FR 221 and finally turn left on FR 5 towards Ute Mtn Lookout tower. You can also reach the trailhead if you continue on FR 221 past the turnoff for Ute Mtn and take a left on FR 96 towards Brownie Lake Campground and trailhead.
To reach the southern trailhead from Vernal, head north on Hwy191/UT44. Take a left on UT 121 and a right on 2500 W/Taylor Mtn Rd. Continue on this road following the Red Cloud Loop to FR 43. Old Carter Rd begins aprox 4 mi down FR 43.
Note: As of September 2007, ATV riding on Forest Service roads requires a Utah ATV registration. Only certain designated Forest Service roads are open to ATV riding.
