Big Aspen Trail For ATV Riding
The 15th most popular all terrain vehicle trail in Minnesota.

North of Duluth and Virginia in the Superior National Forest, the Big Aspen Trail is a 20 mile multi-purpose route. The looping trail system follows old logging roads and railroad grades while passing through pine and hardwood forests. It has a hard-packed dirt and grass surface. This trail is popular with hikers, mountain bikers, horseback and ATV riders.
To reach the trailhead from Virginia, head north on SR53 for 8 miles. Turn right on CR131 for 1 mile. Turn left on CR68 for 0.3 miles. Continue straight on CR405 for 2 miles to parking lot.
Note: As of September 2007, ATV riding is only permitted on designated Forest Service roads. To obtain a map of designated roads, contact the Forest Service HQ at (218) 626-4300.
Overall, Big Aspen Trail is the 15th most popular ATV riding trail of all 33 ATV trails in Minnesota. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Big Aspen Trail including Upper Willow Loop, Yellow Birch Trail, General Andrews State Forest, St Croix State Forest and Thistledew ATV Trail.
