South of Monroe and east of Riverton in the Boeuf Wildlife Management Area, the 19 mile Merango Swamp Trail is a muddy, challenging route open to ATV riding. Keep in mind that this is a swamp -- it can be a very bad experience if you do not prepare for it. This is the home of Suicide Hole, one of the most famous mud holes in the South. Keep an eye out for alligators and snakes.

To reach the trailhead at Lafourche Landing Store from Monroe, head south on US165 towards Riverton. Just before Riverton, head east on SR847. Turn right heading south on SR133 through Hebert. Turn left on SR561 briefly and then right on SR848 for 2.5 miles to the store.

Note, this area is now only open the first weekend of June each year, and is very crowded on that weekend.

Overall, Marengo Swamp Trail is the 6th most popular ATV riding trail of all 8 ATV trails in Louisiana.
