Near McHenry, the 2.7 mile Piney Mountain Trail system consists of multi-use roads linking the main campgrounds that are open to ATV riding.

To reach the ATV riding trailhead for the Piney Mountain Trail from McHenry, head west on Sang Run Rd. for about 7 miles to Piney Mountain Rd. Turn left, parking is on the left.

Overall, Piney Mountain Trail is the 11th most popular ATV riding trail of all 12 ATV trails in Maryland. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Piney Mountain Trail including Garrett Trail System, Wallman Road, Potomac River Trail and Backbone Mountain Trail.
