South of Mountain Lake Park, the 10.5 mile Potomac River Trail system consists of multi-use roads linking the main campgrounds that are open to ATV riding.

The ATV riding trailhead for the Potomac River Trail is south of Mountain Lake Park. The trailhead is 2.5 miles east of SR 560 on Audrey Riley Road.

Overall, Potomac River Trail is the 9th most popular ATV riding trail of all 12 ATV trails in Maryland. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Potomac River Trail including Garrett Trail System, Wallman Road, Backbone Mountain Trail and Piney Mountain Trail.
