Killpecker Sand Dunes For ATV Riding
The 16th most popular all terrain vehicle trail in Wyoming.

North of Rock Springs, the 38,600 acre Killpecker Sand Dunes region has dedicated over 10,000 acres open to ATV riding. It is an open riding area without designated trails. The Greater Sand Dunes ACEC is located in north central Sweetwater County.
To reach the Killpecker Sand Dunes ATV riding trailhead from where Tri-Territory Road (County Road 4-17) leaves US 191 head east and then north on CR 17. Go 14.75 miles to a fork, stay right. Travel 3.5 more miles, then take a left. At 1.85 miles further take another left. Go just over one half mile to a left. Stay right to parking lot. Look for signs.
To reach the Killpecker Sand Dunes ATV trails from Rock Springs, head north on US191 for 11 miles. Turn north on CR 11 (Chilton Road) for 22 miles.
Note: Watch out for partially buried gas wells. Many of the dunes are very steep on the lee or downwind side. Use caution when approaching the crest of a dune. Even in this desert environment there are small ponds of water. Most of the ponds are on the lee side of the dunes.
Overall, Killpecker Sand Dunes is the 16th most popular ATV riding trail of all 27 ATV trails in Wyoming.
