Northeast of Fairbanks in the White Mountains National Recreation Area, the Windy Creek Trail is a 10 mile route open to ATV trails riding. The route has a 1,000 feet elevation gain. The trail follows Windy Creek through black spruce forest and meadows. The finish is a steep climb for 2 miles.

The trailhead is at Milepost 57 of the Elliot Highway. Follow the Duncan Creek and Colorado Creek Trail to the start of the Windy Creek Trail at Wolf Run Cabin. The Windy Creek Trail parallels Windy Creek on the north side, following the creek drainage up the valley. It winds through black spruce forests and open meadows while gently climbing for the next five miles. Over the next two miles the trail climbs steeply through Windy Gap and emerges on top of a plateau overlooking the Fossil Creek drainage and the spectacular White Mountains, Limestone Gulch, and Windy Arch. From here, the trail descends into the forest and drops steeply for one mile, crossing Fossil Creek, to its junction with the Cache Mountain Loop Trail.

Overall, Windy Creek Trail is the 23rd most popular ATV riding trail of all 27 ATV trails in Alaska. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Windy Creek Trail including Moose Creek Bluff ATV Trail, Colorado Creek ATV Trail, Quartz Creek Trail, Trail Creek Trail and Chena River State Recreation Area.
