Northwest of Prescott near Granite Mountain in the Prescott National Forest, the Tonto Wash Trail is a 16 mile route open to ATV riding.

This trail runs for about 8 miles one-way between the intersection of Iron Springs Rd and FR 102 (Tonto Rd) in the south and Williamson Valley Road/Simmons Hwy and FR 85 (Fair Oaks Rd.) in the north. To get to the southern trailhead from Prescott, head west on Iron Springs Rd. After you pass the turnoff on the left for the town of Iron Springs, it is another 7.6 miles to FR 102 (Tonto Rd.), turn right (north) here and look for parking.

Note: As of September 2007, ATV riding on Forest Service roads is limited to ATVs that have a valid license plate.

Overall, Tonto Wash Trail is the 22nd most popular ATV riding trail of all 42 ATV trails in Arizona. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Tonto Wash Trail including Crown King, Sheridan Mountain / Smith Mesa, Alto Pit ATV Area, Hayfield Draw OHV Area and Seven Mile Gulch Trail.
