Scipio Off-Road Vehicle Area For ATV Riding

The 10th most popular all terrain vehicle trail in Oklahoma.

Northwest of McAlester near Scipio, the Scipio Off-Road Riding Park has 25 miles of ATV trails over 1,720 acres. There is plenty of sand, rocks and dense forest. The maximum elevation change is 300 feet. The trails are not open to jeeps or side-by-side UTVs.

The trailhead is located about 20 miles northwest of McAlester. Trail riding is open from sunrise to sunset and no off-trail riding is permitted.

Registration of OHVs (ATVs) is not required in Oklahoma, and there is no minimum age for riding such. Muffler and spark arrestors are required on State and Federal land and the OHV must be equipped with headlights for night riding. On-road use is prohibited with certain exceptions, notably riding on unpaved National Forest system roads.

Overall, Scipio Off-Road Vehicle Area is the 10th most popular ATV riding trail of all 19 ATV trails in Oklahoma.
