Northeast of San Bernardino and south of Big Bear Lake, the Big Bear Lake - Cactus Flats area has 62 miles of forest roads and trails open to ATV riding.

The best trailheads are: Cactus Flats Staging northeast of Big Bear Lake, Big Pine Flats Campground northwest of Big Bear Lake and Crab Flats Campground between Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake.

Note: As of September 2007, ATV riding is only permitted on designated Forest Service roads as long as the ATV has a valid California green ATV sticker. To obtain a map with the designated roads, contact the Forest Service HQ at (909) 382-2600.

Overall, Big Bear Lake - North is the 18th most popular ATV riding trail of all 106 ATV trails in California. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Big Bear Lake - North including Hungry Valley State Recreation Area, Forest OHV System / Big Bear OHV, San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area, Rowher Flat OHV Area, Baldy Mesa / Cleghorn Ridge / Marshall Peak and Wildomar OHV Area.
