Black Rock Hot Springs For ATV Riding

North of Reno near Gerlach, the 300,000 acre Black Rock Desert - High Rock Canyon Area has hundreds of miles for ATV riding on this silt playa. This flat desert region is the home of the annual Burning Man Festival. Avoid wet conditions due to very sticky desert mud.
The Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon area has over 750 miles of trails and 4-wheel drive roads. There are no designated camping or trailhead areas and motorized vehicles must stay on existing roads and trails. The Soldier Meadows Hot Springs, southwest of Soldier meadows Ranch and Guest House does offer a primitive restroom and has room to camp and park. From there, you can follow a trail down to High rock Lake and into High Rock Canyon Wilderness. The road through the wilderness area is a seasonal road so call ahead to verify if its open. You can complete a loop around the edge of the Wilderness area and back to the Hot Springs parking area. This route is over 50 miles long and offers many side trails and alternate routes.
To reach the ATV riding trailhead for Black Rock Hot Springs from Reno, head north on SR447 into Gerlach where the desert begins. Its about 100 miles from Reno.
Overall, Black Rock Hot Springs is the 23rd most popular ATV riding trail of all 27 ATV trails in Nevada. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Black Rock Hot Springs including Virginia City Trails, Soldier Meadows Hot Springs and High Rock Lake.
