Bissett Road Trail For ATV Riding

The 2nd most popular all terrain vehicle trail in Nova Scotia.

In Halifax County, the 5.3km Bissett Road Trail is open to a variety of sports including ATV riding. The route follows an old railroad grade. There are short railway bridges at 2.5 and 4.5 km, along with patches of wild roses, add to the excitement of the trail. Take caution going across the bridges.

The trail begins with a bunch of boulders, there is room for 3 cars to park. A flat, 3 ft wide stone path takes you through young hardwoods and shortly joins up with an elevated railway bed at a small waterfall and river. After about 1.5 km, there are footpaths off the trail which eventually rejoin. After 2 km, the railway tracks are still intact,but there will be a small path off to the side. Look for the bubbling brook on the left.

Two bridges will take you over into a primarily softwoods forest and eventually, a swampy area. Another kilometre remains before reaching another railway bridge and the Canadian Forces Base Shearwater runway lights. Shortly beyond this the trail becomes overgrown.

Directions to trailhead: Bissett Road off of Cole Harbour Road. Rail trail crosses Bissett Road.

Overall, Bissett Road Trail is the 2nd most popular ATV riding trail of all 12 ATV trails in Nova Scotia.
