Southeast of Ocala, the Ocala Adventure Trail (formerly Centennial Trail) is a 47 mile loop open to ATV riding. It is a slow speed ATV route designed to provide viewing access to the large sand pine scrub ecosystem. This ATV trail system was designed to replace the informal trail system formerly known as the Big Scrub riding area.
There are three ATV parking corrals supporting dirt biking for day users. These ATV parking corrals include: Big Scrub Campground, Blue Sink and Farles Prairie.
To reach the ATV riding near Big Scrub Campground from US75, use the SW/CR484 (Belleview) Exit #341. Head east on SW/CR484. Turn south on CR475 (not CR475a) to SR42. Head east on SR42 for 20.2 miles to FS588. Turn left heading east on dirt FS588 (aka SE222CT) for 6 miles to the intersection with FS573. The NFS Big Scrub Campground is on the northwest corner of the intersection. If you are camping at Big Scrub, you can ride from the campground to the trail system.
To reach the Blue Sink OHV Corral from Altoona, head north on SR19 for 6.7 miles to Pine Needle Pl. Turn left and when you cross a dirt north-south road, veer right. Turn left heading west on next road for 1.5 miles to the Ocala Adventure Trail ATV trailhead at Blue Sink on the left side of the road.
To reach the Farles Prairie Recreation Area from SR40, head south on SR19. Look for signs on the right for the ATV trailhead parking at Farles Prairie.
Note: As of August 2008, OHV riding on the Ocala Adventure Trail is only permitted with the purchase of the new trail pass (1 day, 7 day or annual pass) which are available at the trailheads. Riding double is prohibited. The maximum speed limit is 20 mph. All drivers under 16 years old must have a valid safety course certificate. The trail is only open to vehicles less than 65 inches wide.
Overall, Ocala Adventure Trail is the 11th most popular ATV riding trail of all 18 ATV trails in Florida. Several of the better atv trails are nearby Ocala Adventure Trail including Ocala North OHV Trail System, Wandering Wiregrass Trail and Motocross of Marion County.
