Near Millinocket, the Katahdin ATV Trail System (aka Katahdin Region Multi-Use Trail) is envisioned as a 16.5 mile trail through the Katahdin region. The trail was built with the suport of the Northern Timber Cruisers Snowmobile Club on Katahdin Forest Management LLC land. It will start at the Northern Timber Cruisers clubhouse on Baxter State Park Road and will run to South Twin Lakes and then on to the ATV networks near Seboeis Lake in the Seboeis Public Reserve Land Unit. The mile markers alond the way have GPS coordinates.
While there is no trail permit or membership required to use this trail system at this time, a donation to Northern Timber Cruisers Snowmobile Club would be great to help maintain this expensive trail network.
If trailering to the Katahdin Area to access the trail, please unload at the only designated trailhead, located at the Northern Timber Cruisers Clubhouse on Outer Bates Street just outside of town on the State Road to Baxter State Park. Riders can access Millinocket's Downtown Connector Trail at the trail junction between the Golden Road Crossing and trail mile marker # 2. Riders may encounter Mt. Bikers and other pedestrian traffic on the trail, so please keep your eyes pealed and look out for each other and don't forget to Tread Lightly!
Overall, Katahdin Region Multi-Use Trail is the 16th most popular ATV riding trail of all 22 ATV trails in Maine.
