Northeast of Santa Fe in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, the Winsor Trail is a 10 mile mountain biking route descending 3,200 feet from the Santa Fe ski area. It winds its way down through dense ponderosa pine forest with a few short climbs along the way down to riparian desert.
Southeast of Zernez, the Val Mora is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Graubuenden. Val Mora connects the village of Val Muestair to Livigno and to Bormio.
West of Montrose, the Whole Uncolada Trail is a popular mountain biking route descending off the Uncompahgre Plateau. It combines a range of singletracks and doubletracks totalling 20 miles with 1,200 feet of climbing and a massive 4,000 feet of descent.
Southwest of Innsbruck in the Ötztal valley, the Bike Republic Sölden area has a wide range of mountain bike routes to explore. There are several gondolas that can provide lift access to the dozen trails up on the ski mountain.
Southwest of Landeck, the region surrounding Ischgl offers numerous diverse mountain biking routes to explore. The ski lift system from Ischgl provides some lift-assisted mountain biking as well, but don't expect buff, flow singletrack since it's steep, rocky and rooty.
Northeast of San Diego and northwest of La Mesa, the Mission Trails Regional Park has a diverse network of fireroads and singletrack for all levels of mountain bike riders. For easy mountain bike rides, try Oak Grove Trail, Rim Trail and Lake Murphy Path.
West of Las Vegas in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, the Cottonwood Valley Trail System has miles of challenging mountain bike trails in the foothills of the Spring Mountains. The trail system was originally carved by wild horses and consists of several loops totaling 65 miles passing through barren desert and Joshua Tree forests.
West of Moab, the Captain Ahab Trail is a purpose-built mountain bike trail recently sanctioned on BLM land. Designed as an advanced trail, the Capt Ahab is a 4.3 mile route offering a 1,100 foot descent over slickrock benches.
Southeast of Zurich in the upper Matteral Valley, the Zermatt area has about 50km of marked mountain bike trails. The mountains surrounding the town attract plenty of mountain bikers who are equally excited about the scenic, but challening, singletrack as they are about the lift-accessed trail system.
West of Aspen and north of Snowmass Village, the Rim Trail is a popular mountain biking and hiking route winding and rolling 7 miles from the village north to the Rec Center. Most mountain bikers will start at the south trailhead near the Snowmass Village transit center and ride north to the Rec Center.
The Swiss Alpine Bike Route #1 is an east-west 660km mountain biking tour. The pan Switzerland Bike Route is spread into 16 stages with a total vertical of 16,800m.
Northwest of Moab, the Magnificent 7 Trail System provides a range of loops for mountain bikers to explore. The trail system consists of seven main trails: Bull Run (5.1 miles), Arth's Corner (1.5 miles), Little Canyon (2.2 miles), Great Escape (3.3 miles), Gold Bar, Portal Trail and Poison Spider.
North of Crested Butte and Gothic, the Trail 401 provides the ultimate test of bike handling while running an exposed narrow ridge line along the Maroon Bells Wilderness boundary. To reach the mountain biking trailhead for Trail 401 from town, follow Gothic Road (FS317) north through Gothic to the NFS Gothic Campground parking area (near Rustlers Gulch Road). Continue riding on FS317 northwest for several miles.
Northeast of Cortina d'Ampezzo, Val di Fanes is one of the most infamous mountain bike trails in the Dolomites. In addition to passing through the limestone spires of the Dolomites, the trail passes waterfalls and small alpine lakes.
