Northeast of Tampa and Branchton in Hillsborough County, the Wilderness Park Off Road Trail System is a trail network open to mountain biking. It spans several park systems including Flatwoods Park, Morris Bridge Park and Trout Creek Park. There are miles of shaded, semi-sandy trails through oak and pine forest. Keep an eye out for wild pigs!
The Main Trail is about 17 miles long, plus there are about 15 miles of side trails to explore. Note, you will most likely get lost at some point, so be prepared for an extended ride.
The paved 7 mile loop is quite popular, but most people don't realize there are miles of trails and old dirt roads to explore.
To reach the Flatwoods Park trailhead, follow US 75 to Exit 266 (Fletcher Ave). Head east on Fletcher Avenue (SR579) for 5 miles (name changes to Morris Bridge Road). Look for park on left at 16400 Morris Bridge Road.
Overall, Wilderness Park Off Road Trail System is the 37th most popular mountain bike trail of all 58 mountain biking rides in Florida. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Wilderness Park Off Road Trail System including Little Manatee River State Park, Alafia River State Park, Balm Boyette Scrub Preserve and Loyce E. Harpe Park.
