Just west of Denver in the foothills, the Red Rocks loop encompassing Dakota Ridge is a rolling 6 mile singletrack mountain bike ride. Dakota Ridge is a jagged spine with twisting trail and awesome views across the plains. Get ready for stretches of slickrock and pine forests. The route combines Dakota Ridge Trail with the Redrock Trail and Morrison Slide Trail. Also, check out nearby Apex Trail.
To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Denver, head west on US70 to SR26. Look for parking areas on east side of SR26 near exit. Start riding a steep gravel road. To reach Apex, mountain bike ride north on SR26 to SR40 north to a playland area and look for trailhead signs.
