Northwest of Ottowa near Pembroke, the Pakkottina Trail is a challenging 10km route. The trail begins as a fire/logging road and gets narrower as you go up. There are a couple of side trails that are fun, but to stick to the main trail, keep left at the fork and go up technical single-track to a scenic lookout over the Bonnechere Valley. Continue around the loop (ignore the snowmobile and ATV trail signs unless youre feely very energetic and you have a compass) and you will enjoy a steep, technical downhill that meets up with the first part of the trail at the fork.
To reach mountain biking at the trailhead, follow SR60 to 8km east of Golden Lake. Look for the sign on the north side of the road.
Overall, Pakkottina Trail is the 11th most popular mountain bike trail of all 22 mountain biking rides in Ontario.
