East of Phoenix near Fountain Hills, the 16 mile Pemberton Trail which is a classic ride in the 21,000 acre McDowell Mountain Regional Park of Maricopa County Parks. The loop starts from the horse staging area and follows blazes clockwise. A shorter loop is the 3 mile North Trail.

The McDowell Mountain Regional Park is 4 miles north of Fountain Hills. To reach the McDowell Mountain Regional Park mountain biking trailhead from Phoenix, follow SR57 north to Foothills Drive. Head north on North Foothills Blvd.

Overall, McDowell Mountain Park is the 9th most popular mountain bike trail of all 103 mountain biking rides in Arizona. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby McDowell Mountain Park including Estrella Mountain Regional Park, Phoenix Mountain Preserve Trail, Usery Mountain Park, South Mountain Park, Pyramid Peak and Black Canyon Trail.
