Near Missoula and northeast of St Regis in the Lolo National Forest, the 9 mile River Trail (#223) runs through old-growth pine along the Clark Fork River on mountain bike mountain bike singletrack and jeep trails.

Overall, River Trail is the 15th most popular mountain bike trail of all 32 mountain biking rides in Montana. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby River Trail including Blue Mountain Recreation Area, Lolo Trail, Sawmill-Curry Trail System and Woods Gulch Trail.
