North of Barmouth in Northern Wales, the 13 mile Talybont-Diffwys loops is a remote trek with over 900m of vertical. It wraps its way through the southern end of the Rhinog Mountains. This is some of the best and most demanding riding in Wales. There are great vistas over Barmouth Bay and the coastline beach.
To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Barmouth, head north on A496 for 8km into Talybont. Use the car park next to the museum. The mountain bike ride starts with a steady 600m climb over 6km on the way to Pont-Scethin. After this warm up, the challenging singletrack climb begins and then descends into Banc y Fran. Next up is an ascent to Bwlch y Rhingyr, leaving a long descent back to Talybont.
Overall, Talybont-Diffwys Loop is the 46th most popular mountain bike trail of all 93 mountain biking rides in UK.
