Antelope Island State Park For Mountain Biking

North of Salt Lake City, the 28,000 acre Antelope Island State Park has 35 miles of trails open to mountain biking. The White Rock Bay Loop (7.5 mi.) is a great starting point for exploring this sanctuary for antelope, buffalo and other game. Split Rock Bay is trail is a 5 mile loop of single track which consists of a short climb and dramatic descent to a pristine white sandy beach. The Elephant Head spur leads to a dramatic overlook.

Perhaps the most alluring feature of Antelope Island is its unique array of wildlife. The island is most famous for its large bison population. The herd fluctuates between 550 and 700, making it one of the largest publicly owned bison herds in the nation. The Antelope Island bison herd is also recognized as one of the oldest in the country and possesses unique genetic characteristics. There are also about 50 pronghorn antelop on the island.

To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Salt Lake City, head north on US15 to Exit 332. Head west on SR108 (aka Antelope Drive) for 3.7 miles. As SR108 makes a sharp righthand turn, continue straight on SR127 (aka 1700 South) for 2.8 miles to the state park guard house at the beginning of the causeway. Follow the causeway across the bay to the island.

Overall, Antelope Island State Park is the 21st most popular mountain bike trail of all 73 mountain biking rides in Utah. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Antelope Island State Park including Mill Creek Trail, Stansbury Front Trail and Big Water Trail.
