Southeast of San Jose and northeast of Gilroy in the Henry Coe State Park, the 30 mile Mississippi Lake Loop is an epic ride in the 80,000 acre Henry W Coe State Park through crenellated ridges by azur lakes. The terrain of the park is rugged, varied, and beautiful, with lofty ridges and steep canyons. This strenuous ride combines numerous trails and fireroads to form a loop.
To reach the trailhead from San Jose, head south on US101 to the Leavesley Road exit in Gilroy. Follow Leavesley Road east for 1 mile and turn left on New Avenue. Then turn right on Roop Road. Turn left onto Hot Springs Road for several miles and park at Hunting Hollow.
The park has 100 miles of roads and trails that are open to mountain bikes. The rugged terrain offers a variety of riding options ranging from moderately difficult to extremely difficult. There are practically no easy trails for bikes.
Overall, Mississippi Lake Loop Trail is the 64th most popular mountain bike trail of all 132 mountain biking rides in California.
