Northwest of Inverness, the Ullapool area in the remote northwestern tip of Scotland has a scenic 17 mile mountain bike loop through rolling barren hills with sea vistas. Ullapool is a quiet fishing village so take plenty of supplies. To reach Ullapool from Inverness, follow the A835 northwest.
The best loop heads south from town on the A835. After about 5.5km, turn left ascending up a steep dirt road at the southern end of Leckmelm near the cottages. Continue on the dirt road for 9km to East Rhiddoroch Lodge. Near the lodge, turn left heading northwest on main track along Riddoroch River to western end of Loch Achall. After 9km veer right to Glastullick and continue along river. At the A835, turn left and head south back into town.
Overall, Ullapool is the 65th most popular mountain bike trail of all 93 mountain biking rides in UK.
