Running from the mountains to the sea, nearly half of the proposed 425 miles of the Palmetto Trail are in place and regularly host mountain biking, hiking, and equestrian use. Over 130 miles of the trail exist as a continuous corridor, tying the Midlands to the coast. The development of several Upstate passages has generated a growing momentum for the trail through the Piedmont and Blue Ridge Mountains. The intention of the Palmetto Trail to fuse outdoor recreation with increased consciousness of South Carolinas history, cultures, and natural heritage has provided a pathway connecting Revolutionary War sites, towns and cities, and backcountry.

Overall, Palmetto Trail is the 12th most popular mountain bike trail of all 16 mountain biking rides in South Carolina.
