Bushwacker Loop For Mountain Biking

Northeast of Damascus in the Mount Rogers NRA, the yellow-blazed Bear Tree / Bushwacker loop is a 12 mile singletrack used annually for a local mountain bike race. The trailhead is east of Damascus on SR58 at FS90.

Head up FS90 for 0.5 miles and turn left on Bushwacker Trail. After a mile, veer left on the Iron Mountain Trail at Sandy Flats Shelter. After a mile, turn right on Feather Gap Trail. Turn right on Sawmill Trail and then right on FS615. At the Iron Mountain Trail, turn left. At the Beartree Gap trail, turn right. At Beartree Road, follow it southwest to SR58.

Overall, Bushwacker Loop is the 14th most popular mountain bike trail of all 27 mountain biking rides in Virginia. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Bushwacker Loop including Iron Mountain, Virgina Creeper Trail, Virginia Highlands Trail and Rowlands Creek Falls Circuit Trail.
