Northwest of Fort Collins in the Poudre Canyon area, the Hewlett Gulch trail is a 5 mile one-way route. From the trailhead, cross the river and follow the trail north. At 2.5 miles, continue north and do not climb the rocky side trail. At the top in the meadow, either return via the same route, or continue and the trail wraps around to come back down that steep rocky section.

To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Fort Collins, head north on US287. Turn left on Poudre Canyon road for 10 miles. The trailhead is on the right at milepost 111.5

Overall, Hewlett Gulch is the 84th most popular mountain bike trail of all 178 mountain biking rides in Colorado. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Hewlett Gulch including Crosier Mountain, Killpecker Trail, Mount Margaret Trail, North Lone Pine Trail, Roaring Creek Trail and Youngs GulchHorsetooth Mountain.
