Northwest of Crested Butte, the Loop Loop is a locals favorite after work ride. From town, the main loop is a 10 mile mountain bike ride, with plenty of side routes for variations to keep it interesting.
To reach the main trailhead parking area from SR135, head west on Elk Avenue to First Street. Turn right heading north on First Street for 4 blocks to Butte Avenue. Turn left heading west on Butte Avenue. Butte Avenue eventually turns to the dirt and becomes Peanut Lake Road. The parking area is just ahead on the left.
Overall, Lower Loop Trail is the 67th most popular mountain bike trail of all 178 mountain biking rides in Colorado. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Lower Loop Trail including Deer Creek Trail, 401 Trail, Teocalli Ridge Trail, East Brush Creek / Trail 400, 409 Trail / Walrod Gulch and Timberline Trail.
