Northwest of Dover near Andover in Kittatinny Valley State Park, the Sussex Branch Trail is a 20 mile mountain biking route. This 20-mile trail skirts swamps, lakes, fields and several small communities. Since the trail's existence is so closely tied to its former use as a railroad, the right-of-way contains significant cultural features including created cuts, fills, grading and bridge abutments. The flat cinder base of the trail permits multiple uses including hiking, horseback riding, biking, cross-country skiing and dog sledding.

To reach mountain biking at the park from Route 80, take Route 206 north approximately 7 miles to Andover Borough and turn right onto County Route 669 (Limecrest Road). Park entrance is 1.1 miles ahead on the left.

The 21.2 mile Sussex Branch Trail begins at Waterloo Road, one mile west of Route 206 in Byram, and intersects with the Paulinskill Valley Trail at Warbasse Junction turn just north of Newton before terminating further north in Branchville. Heading southwest through Fredon, Stillwater, and Blairstown, the 26 mile Paulinskill Trail ends near the Delaware River at the Columbia Lake Wildlife Management Area in Knowlton Township.

Overall, Sussex Branch Trail is the 13th most popular mountain bike trail of all 24 mountain biking rides in New Jersey.
