Thunder Mountain Trail For Mountain Biking

The 10th most popular mountain bike trail in Utah.

East of Cedar City and west of Bryce in the Red Canyon area, the Thunder Mountain Trail is one of the more popular and challenging mountain bike rides. There are many rutted and rocky sections. Best in fall after spring mud rutts have been worn down.

To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Cedar City, head east on SR14. It dead ends at US89. Turn left heading north on US89. At SR12, turn right heading east for about 3 miles into Red Canyon. The trailhead parking is on the righ (south side of the road).

To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Bryce, head west on SR12 into Red Canyon.

From the trailhead parking west of the Red Canyon Campground, mountain bike ride east on SR12 for 4.8 miles. Turn right on forest road heading south for 1.6 miles. Turn right heading west on to Thunder Mountain Trail. The trail rolls for 6 miles back to the trailhead.

Overall, Thunder Mountain Trail is the 10th most popular mountain bike trail of all 73 mountain biking rides in Utah.
