The Erie Canal Heritage Trail (aka Canalway Trail) is a 220 mile mountain bike route from Lockport to Fairport. The gravel trail follows old canal towpaths and abandoned railway corridors.

Directions to trailhead in Lockport: Heading east from downtown on Route 31, turn North onto Cold Springs Road. Cross a bridge and turn right onto North Canal Road to parking area.

The trail also is accessible in Batavia, Fairport, Palmyra.

Overall, Erie Canal Trail is the 20th most popular mountain bike trail of all 48 mountain biking rides in New York. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Erie Canal Trail including Gorge Trail and Bond Lake Park.
