Northeast of Covington in the George Washington National Forest, the Dry Run Trail is a nine mile mountain bike trail offering excellent vistas and wildlife viewing opportunities as it passes near Big Knob, the highest point in Allegheny County.

The Dry Run Trail begins at the end of Cyprus Street in Covington. It extends up Dry Run Creek and Peters Ridge, crosses FDR 125 and ends at its intersection with the Fore Mountain Trail. It can also be accessed from FDR 125.

Overall, Dry Run Trail is the 23rd most popular mountain bike trail of all 27 mountain biking rides in Virginia. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Dry Run Trail including North Mountain Trail, Wolf Ridge Trail, Allegheny Trail, Wild Oak Trail, Virginia Mountain Bike Trail and Signal Knob LoopFore Mountain Trail.
