Mt Aetna Tract For Mountain Biking

Southeast of Grantsville and west of Frostburg in the Savage River State Forest, the 700 acre Mt. Aetna Tract of the Savage River State Forest has 11 miles of trails and doubletracks open to hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing.

A great starting point is the Savage River Lodge.

To reach the trailhead from Baltimore, head west on US70 past Cumberland to US68. Head west on US68 to Exit 29 (Finzel). Head south on Beall School Road for 1 mile. Turn right on Frostburg Road staying left at fork for 2.6 miles. Turn right on Mt. Aetna Road and continue to lodge.

Overall, Mt Aetna Tract is the 16th most popular mountain bike trail of all 17 mountain biking rides in Maryland. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Mt Aetna Tract including Negro Mountain Trails and Margraff Plantation Trail.
