Near Albany, the Sugar River State Trail was one of the first rails-to-trails conversions in Wisconsin. The scenic trail wends its way 23 miles (39 kilometers) through picturesque countryside. Four Green County communities are linked by the trail: Brodhead, Albany, Monticello, and New Glarus. A trail pass is necessary for mountain mountain biking and can be purchased at Trail Headquarters located in the historic train depot in New Glarus or a variety of locations in Brodhead, Albany, and Monticello. Bike rentals are also available at the depot in New Glarus.
Overall, Sugar River Trail is the 18th most popular mountain bike trail of all 20 mountain biking rides in Wisconsin.
