Skookum Flats Trail For Mountain Biking

East of Seattle near Enumclaw, the Skookum Flats Trail is a popular 8.2 mile mountain biking route on the slopes of Mt Rainier. This technical, rolling trail winds through dense rain forest. Many mountain bike riders follow this out and back for a 16.4 mile trip.

To reach the southern trailhead from Enumclaw, head east on SR410 for roughly 30 miles. Turn right on FS7160 (aka Buck Creek Road), and continue across the bridge. Turn left just after the bridge into the small parking area.

To reach the northern trailhead from Enumclaw, head east on SR410 for 24.8 miles to Huckleberry Creek Road #73. Turn right (south) onto Road #73 and follow 0.4 mile to trailhead just past bridge. Trailhead is on left (east) side of road. The trailhead has 10 parking spaces on road shoulder.

This trail is an early and late season trail which follows along the west side of the White River. At mile point 2.1 is Skookum Falls. The best time to view the falls is from early spring to June. Mile point 3.1 offers a beautiful view of rock formation, The Palisades, across the river to the east. At mile point 4.1 is the junction with Buck Creek Trail #1169. At mile point 5.7, the trail goes under the concrete bridge for Buck Creek Road #7160; easy access to Road #7160. At mile point 6.7 the trail is south end of Ranger Creek Emergency Airstrip and near Road #7190. Trail ends at Mt. Rainier National Park Boundary.

Note: A Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.
