Dismal River For Mountain Biking

North of North Platte and southwest of Dunning in the Nebraska National Forest, the Dismal River Trail is a 11 mile one-way route open to mountain biking. The loose-sand route runs from the Dismal River Trailhead to the NFS Whitetail Campground.

To reach the trailhead from Halsey, head west on SR2 for 1.5 miles. Turn left heading south on SR S86B towards the Scott Lookout Tower. Just bofore the lookout tower, turn left heading south on Circle Road (aka FS203). Continue south for 3 miles to a wide open area on the east side of the road near the junction with FS201.

Overall, Dismal River is the 5th most popular mountain bike trail of all 6 mountain biking rides in Nebraska. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Dismal River including Pine Ridge Trail and Spotted Tail Loop.
