Laurel Gap Trail For Mountain Biking

The 21st most popular mountain bike trail in North Carolina.

East of Dillingham, the Laurel Gap Trail is a 7 mile mountain bike route open to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The route follows a gated road over Big Andy and Walker Ridges with nice vistas. There are several side trails including Staire Creek Trail, Walker Creek Trail and Elk Pen Trail.

From Asheville, travel east on US 70 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn left onto the Blue Ridge Parkway. Travel approximately 14.7 miles, then turn left toward Dillingham onto State Route 2178, also known as Stoney Fork Road. Travel 6.1 miles to Dillingham. Continue through Dillingham, and turn right on State Route 2173, also known as Dillingham Road. Travel 2.5 miles to the trail head. You will begin hiking on Elk Pen Trail #166 which turns into Upper Corner Rock Trail #173. From trail #173, turn left onto the Laurel Gap Trail.

Overall, Laurel Gap Trail is the 21st most popular mountain bike trail of all 24 mountain biking rides in North Carolina.
