West of Park Rapids and Osage, the 23,000 acre Smokey Hills State Forest Trail System has a 13 mile trail system open to mountain biking, ATV and dirt bike riding.

To reach the Pine Grove Wayside Rest picnic area from Osage, head east on SR34 through the Village of Smoky Hills. The picnic area is at the intersection of Navallus Forest Road.

Overall, Smokey Hills State Forest is the 29th most popular mountain bike trail of all 31 mountain biking rides in Minnesota.
