East of Hayward, the Hatchery Creek Trail (aka Makwa Trail) is a challenging 11 mile mountain bike loop through pine forest. This is a relatively new trail system that is expanding and has not been mapped yet.

The Hatchery Creek Trailhead is located about to miles east of the New Moon Cyclery in Hayward. There is also the Mosquito Brook Trailhead which is north of Hayward that provides access to the loop.

Detailed Directions: From the intersection of Highways 77 and 63 in Hayward, drive east 3 miles to Fish Hatchery Road. Turn left (north) and go 1 mile to the lower parking lot at the Log Cabin Warming Hut. The Trail Head will be to the right 100 yards
