The Long Way Down Tour is a 70km mountain bike trek. It is a route of epic proportions. We meet up in the town of Los Cristianos where we take the public bus service (TITSA) up to the Teleferico (Cable Car) station at the base of Mt. Teide. From here we warm up on the tarmac roads for about 20 minutes before pausing for coffee prior to the tarmac climb to the observatory at Izana. Here we take to the gravel roads and commence the gradual descent to the coast. The route flows quickly through lava fields and forests taking in some single track sections before hitting the tarmac again at the hillside vilage of Arico. We then follow the road which hugs the contours to pick up the final off road descent to El Medano.
Overall, Long Way Down Tour is the 17th most popular mountain bike trail of all 20 mountain biking rides in Spain. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Long Way Down Tour including Parque National del Teide, Tenerife, Vilaflor - Madre del Agua - Vilaflor, BikePark Tenerife, La Caldera de Taburiente and Camino Aldea BlancaLa Esperanza Tour.
