West of Crested Butte, the Kebler Wagon Trail is a 4.9 mile route along the old Kebler Wagon Road from Kebler Pass down to Crested Butte. The top (western) section of trail runs through dense forest which can be wet and muddy. The lower (eastern) section of trail runs along an open hillside through wildflowers.
This trail has been expanded over the years and the long range goal is to extend the trail up to Lake Irwin and then over the pass down to Horse Ranch Park.
To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Crested Butte, follow Kebler Pass Road (CR12) west towards Keblar Pass. Just before the pass, veer right towards Lake Irwin. The trailhead is about 0.75 miles up the road on the left.
Overall, Kebler Wagon Trail is the 128th most popular mountain bike trail of all 178 mountain biking rides in Colorado. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Kebler Wagon Trail including Deer Creek Trail, 401 Trail, Teocalli Ridge Trail, East Brush Creek / Trail 400, 409 Trail / Walrod Gulch and Timberline TrailDoctors Park.
